Sophia Zummo is a junior at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. She’s pursuing a major in Biology and a minor in Sustainability. Growing up in a small beach town in San Diego county, the outdoors have always been an essential part of Sophia’s life. Sophia’s parents taught her at a young age how to always care for her surroundings. Her dad taught her that being a “steward of God’s creation” is an essential part of the Christian faith. Throughout her time in college Sophia has learned that a big part of caring for creation is caring for people. Sophia is passionate about issues of environmental racism and environmental justice and believes that the best way to live out her faith is to learn more and fight against these issues. Sophia hopes that during her time as a YECA fellow, she can continue to educate her community and change their perspective on climate change.
