Olivia Mathews

Hello, my name is Olivia Mathews, and I am a sophomore Environmental Science student at Wheaton College. My appreciation for the natural world was influenced by my grandmother, who introduced me to birdwatching and gardening. On campus, I've been involved with Honduras Project where we raised funds for a clean water system for a rural village in Honduras. Honduras is also where I witnessed how climate change disproportionately affects vulnerable communities. These experiences have shown me that advocating for sustainable development is a matter of both conservation and justice, and what I want to pursue. When I'm not studying, I love birdwatching, baking, and getting lost in a fantasy novel like Lord of the Rings. As a YECA fellow, I am excited to learn more about how I can advocate for policies that promote justice and care for creation on my campus.
