Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) repealed a 2009 finding that greenhouse gas emissions contribute to dangerous climate change. This “endangerment finding” serves as the legal basis for addressing global warming emissions that endanger human health and the environment
In response to this announcement, YECA released the following statement:
Young Evangelicals for Climate Action is dismayed by the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) rollback of the “endangerment finding.” This widely accepted finding determined that greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels cause indisputable harm to human health. By overlooking the medical evidence, the EPA is abandoning its core mission to serve the American people by protecting their health and stewarding the environment well.
Defending human life and standing for scientific truth matter. There is no doubt that greenhouse gas emissions exacerbate climate change. As extreme weather disasters become more frequent and intense across our nation, vulnerable populations (such as children, the sick, and low-wealth communities) will suffer first.
While this repeal is detrimental to our vision for a more just, equitable, and loving world, YECA remains committed to advocating for God’s creation and the wellbeing of our neighbors. We are encouraged by faithful voices that submitted public comments, testified, and brought common sense truth before the EPA. Our fight to defend God’s world for our friends, family, and fellow Americans continues.
