YECA Leadership Update: A Note from Tori Goebel

YECA is a youth-led organization. As such, our commitment to young leadership is a critical part of our mission and is key to both our integrity and efficacy as a ministry. Young people are among those at the forefront of the climate crisis, and I believe that empowering them is an essential part of addressing climate change and striving for environmental justice. I have long admired YECA’s core commitment to not only serve and empower young people, but to be run by those within our target age range, even though it comes with bittersweet transitions as beloved team members age out. Having just turned 30, it is time for a new season for YECA and for myself. As of June 2024, I will be leaving the position of National Organizer and Spokesperson at YECA.

Working with YECA for seven years has been the joy of my professional career, and it has been an honor to serve as National Organizer and Spokesperson since January 2021. We have accomplished so much together in just over three years. We’ve rallied on Capitol Hill and successfully advocated for the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act. We’ve expanded our programming by launching the Community Fellowship to work alongside young people in frontline communities. We’ve deepened our gospel-centered approach by crafting and implementing our Statement of Welcome and Inclusion. And in 2022 we mobilized tens of thousands of voters—just like we will do again this fall.

YECA’s work of faithful activism will continue, and I could not be more excited for the future of this vibrant organization.

As for me, the work of faith-rooted environmental action continues. My passion for connecting faith with climate will continue as I transition to the role of Chief Operating Officer for the Evangelical Environmental Network, YECA’s ministry partner. I am thrilled to support the EEN team and creation care movement in this way.

There is much yet to be done as we confront the climate crisis, and I cannot wait to see how God uses this unique and incredible organization in the years to come as we create a more just, equitable, and loving world.

If you or someone you know would be a good fit for the role of YECA’s National Organizer and Spokesperson, please check out the job description and application details here.
